What we do with the information
Performance analysis
Improve the Service
Internal record keeping
Security measures
On a general note:
No method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. You always need to watch out for yourself! If you have no knowledge about the way the Internet works or computers in general; you might want to consider not using the Internet! Connecting with people and writing letters can then be far more creative and inspiring.
FYI: The Internet was part of a Department of Defense project (DARPA, etcetra) and, in some ways, it still is.
Cookies
The following aims at providing you with more information on what cookies are and how we use them on our Service(s) and websites. For general information about cookies and how to disable them, please visit All About Cookies.
TL:DR
Like most Internet websites, ours too uses cookies which store information on your computer to support your journey through our Service. Some of these are performance cookies that help improve the Service by giving insight into how the site is being used. They generally do not contain personal information. By continuing to use this site and various functionalities, you consent to the relevant cookies being set and/of information stored.
What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small piece of information that is generated by a web server and send to the web browser on your computer in the hope that it saves it for future purposes. A primary objective of cookies is to improve your user experience while surfing the web, to help websites make your next visit easier, for instance by storing your user preferences such as your country or language, etc.
Opting Out and Disabling Cookies
If you wish to restrict or block web browser cookies which are set on your device you can do this through your browser settings; the Help function within your browser should tell you how. Alternatively, you may wish to visit www.aboutcookies.org, which contains comprehensive information on how to do this on a wide variety of desktop browsers. You will also find details on how to delete cookies from your computer as well as more general information about cookies. For information on how to do this on the browser of your mobile phone you will need to refer to your handset manual.
Please note that if you chose to disable some cookies that our Services use, you may experience reduced functionality or be prevented from using parts of this and our other Services.
Cookies used on this web site
Like many other websites, our Service uses cookies for technical, functional and analytical purposes. There are (under Dutch-law) multiple kinds of cookies such as, but not limited to, First-party and Third-party cookies.
First party cookies
First party cookies are set by the website, you are visiting and they can only be read by that website.
Third party cookies
Third party cookies are set by a different organization to the owner of the website you are visiting. For example, the website might use a third party analytics company who will set their own cookie to perform this service. The website you are visiting may also contain content embedded from, for example YouTube or Google, and these sites may set their own cookies.
Other cookies
Session cookies
Session Cookies are stored only temporarily during a browsing session and are generally deleted from the user's device when the browser is closed.
Persistent cookies
This type of cookie is saved on your computer for a fixed period (usually a year or longer) and is not deleted when the browser is closed. Persistent cookies are used when it is needed to know who you are for more than one browsing session.
Our Cookies Usage
We use our own cookies to allow certain functions to work as intended. Cookie banner, information windows and newsletter registration messages are a couple of examples of functions which use cookies to store information for current and/or future use of those functions. Some of the cookies are so-called session cookies, while most of them are persistent cookies.
We are also relying on third party software to drive certain parts of the Service. At the moment of writing, Fiber Atlantic uses Google Maps API to drive its Submarine Cable Map WebApp. Pages using the Google Maps services may present cookies from Google. Similarly, when you use one of the share buttons on the Service, a cookie may be set by the service you have chosen to share content through.
Unfortunately, we do not control the dissemination of third party cookies and cannot block cookies from those websites. You should check the relevant third party website(s) for more information about these yourself.
Do Not Track (DNT) browser setting
DNT is a feature offered by some browsers which, when enabled, sends a signal to websites to request that your browsing is not tracked, such as by third party ad networks, social networks and analytic companies. Currently we do not respond to DNT requests. A uniform standard has not yet been adopted to determine how DNT requests should be interpreted and what actions should be taken by websites and third parties. However, our Services do provide you with the means to opt-out of our analytical system, which you can do here, below:
